January 31 – Construction: Middle-school, kindergarten

With so many activities in the day-to-day life, we neglected to mention some very important activities!
Our little school is gradually growing into a big school compound. Construction of a middle/vocational school is on its way.

Soon to come - Middle School in Zoranje!

Last week, the new kindergarten complex construction started as well.

There are plans to relocate a large number of families into our area and Prodev is working hard to prepare the infrastructure to give education to a growing number of children.

Jan 21 - Parent Meeting

The directors of the school called a parent meeting to discuss with the parents school regulations and the parents’ role in ensuring their kids success. The general assembly was followed by meetings between each teacher and the parents of the students in his class. We’re happy to see a growing number of parents becoming more involved in the school life.

Jan 12, 2011

January 12, 2010 is a date that no Haitian will ever forget. The scale of the catastrophe and the hardships in recovering from it are unimaginable. Most people we meet don’t talk about this event and lost loved ones a lot.  But - in the entire week prior to the date, many people we met talked about their memories and experience from the earthquake.
Our teachers preferred to mark this day as a day of thanks for the lives that were saved. We had some educational activities about earthquake and an art class about reconstruction.

The 12th was dedicated to prayers throughout the village and the country. Our hope is that next year will show significant progress in reconstructing the broken down country we’ve learned to love.

To start the 2nd trimester on a positive and energetic note, all Prodev teachers attended a training session. We believe that ongoing teacher training is the best way to improve the education system from within.

December 16 – Outreach to New Jersey

One of our 5th grades is involved in an information exchange program with students of Tenfly Public School in New Jersey. This program has benefits for both sides. For the US students, it’s a part of learning about Haiti, reaching out to their age group over here and practicing French. For our students it’s a chance to learn about life of children in the US and also to proudly present their own day to day lives and dreams. Today, Galit, the spirit behind this partnership and our liaison to the US school came with the beautiful posters made in the US and gathered the stories made in Haiti to send over.
