March 31 – 2nd Trimester - Exam Period

The second trimester exam period ended today. Our school is entering a normal routine - Hallelujah!

March 25 – Voila Renovation

 During the last few weeks, Voila, one of our biggest partners has helped us realize a number of new projects in the school and village. The basketball court was renovated and even has crowd stands. The school containers were painted, and new soccer goals were built.

 Today was the first inter-school soccer competition vs. a school team of a near by village. The entire event was organized by Billy our school sports teacher and many people from the village came to support the local team.

March 17 - Art Workshop

We used a space between two containers, a little material and a lot of good will to build an art workshop for the school. This new space will provide an out-of-class space for the kids of the school to have art lessons. We’re still not done with the wall murals, but today – our Surages class (overaged kids) had their first lesson in our new space.

March 4 – Carnival

Parade

Carnival is the biggest holiday of the year in Haiti. Last year it was cancelled because of the devastating earthquake, but this year everybody is excited about it again.. Each class selected a theme and created their own masks. The school staff with student volunteers decorated the school and today we had a big carnival party with parade, games and performances.

February 24 – Community Work

Today a group of young people from the village borrowed our newly donated gardening equipment to clear out a soccer field in the village. We are always happy to support community activities and initiatives that help bring the community closer together as well as improve the lives of everyone in the community. As the young and the children made an effort to cut and clear away the grass that was growing wild on field - Prodev will donate new goal gates for the football field. 

February 18 – Staff Computer Program – First Lesson

We’re looking for ways to ensure that students attending our school are computer literate. Computer literacy is a required life skill in the 21^st century. While we’re still not sure how to finance a program like this for the school, we got a donation of a few laptops. As of today – the teachers of Ecole Nouvelle Zoranje are getting computer literacy classes after school hours. There is great enthusiasm for acquiring new knowledge. This class is also inline with our belief that the best way to ensure a good school is through the teachers.

February 4 – School Football (aka Soccer) tournament

Billy, our school sports teacher organized a school soccer tournament. The tournament is taking place during recess and classes are competing against each other. The final match is expected in about a month. In the meanwhile, this provides a lot of interest with many kids cheering the players along.

There are also friendly teacher-student matches that are not part of the main tournament.
